Coco Gauff holds nerve to defeat Rebecca Peterson and reach 2023 Indian Wells quarter finals

Coco Gauff reached the quarter-finals of Indian Wells with a 6-3 1-6 6-4 victory over Rebecca Peterson.

Gauff looked to be in control when she won the first set 6-3, but her Swedish unseeded opponent fought back strongly in the second, levelling things up when she claimed the second 6-1.

The 19-year-old American has been improving year-on-year since her debut at 15, and reached the fourth round of the Australian Open at the start of the year.

She was able to steady her nerves and hit back against Peterson for a win in the third set to take her through to the last eight, to be played later in the week.
