Juventus’ hopes of Champions League football next season remain alive as they eased into the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a 3-0 aggregate.win over Freiburg.

Qualification via Serie A looks a forlorn hope following their points deduction, but they could secure a seat at the top table if they go all the way in the Europa League.

They took a 1-0 lead to Germany from the first leg and goals at the end of each half from Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa respectively put them into Friday’s draw.

Feyenoord thumped Shakhtar Donetsk 8-2 over two legs, with seven of the Dutch side’s goals coming in Holland on Thursday night following a 1-1 draw in Ukraine last week.

Mexican Santiago Gimenez opened the scoring within nine minutes to put the Dutch side ahead for the first time in the tie, before Orkun Kokcu scored a first-half brace to put Feyenoord 3-0 to the good at the break.

A double from Sevilla loanee Oussama Idrissi in the second half and goals from Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Danilo stunned Shakhtar before the visitors netted an 87th-minute consolation goal courtesy of Kevin Kelsy.

Manchester United were forced to weather a storm before beating Real Betis 1-0 on the night, and 5-1 over two legs, thanks to a Marcus Rashford cracker.
Arsenal will now turn their focus to domestic matters after crashing out of the Europa League on penalties to Sporting Lisbon.

Sevilla were among the other sides to progress, scraping past Fenerbache despite recording a 1-0 defeat in the second leg, while Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma and Union St.Gilloise all advanced to the next round later on with Ferencvaros, Real Sociedad, and Union Berlin dropping out.

Juventus’ fellow Serie A rivals Lazio crashed out of the Europa Conference League to Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar who claimed a 4-2 aggregate win.

Protecting a 2-1 lead from the first leg, AZ were pegged back when Felipe Anderson netted for Lazio on 21 minutes, but Jesper Karlsson and Vangelis Pavlidis scored to send them through.

Italian side Fiorentina beat Sivasspor 4-1 away from home to advance – a match which saw an extraordinary own goal – while Basel edged out Slovan Bratislava on penalties.

West Ham beat AEK Larnaca 4-0 on the night in London to progress 6-0 on aggregate, while Islam Slimani scored the only goal on the night to send Anderlecht through 2-1 on aggregate against Villarreal.

The draw for the last eight of both competitions takes place on Friday at 12:00 GMT at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
