Harry Kane to Man Utd a ‘nightmare’ negotiation, Tottenham eye Marco Silva to replace Antonio Conte – Paper Round

Why Kane deal could be a ‘nightmare’ for Man Utd

Harry Kane swapping Tottenham for Manchester United this summer is far from a certainty despite Erik ten Hag seeking a proven goalscorer to boost his options up front, ESPN reports. Kane is out of contract in 2024, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is known to be a fierce negotiator and will not let the England captain go for cheap. Kane was the subject of interest from Manchester City in 2021, but Spurs held onto the England captain before City turned their attentions to signing Erling Haaland last year.

ESPN writes: “Kane and United would appear to be the perfect fit, but sources have told ESPN that the prospect of dealing with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in order to negotiate a deal for the England captain has left United focusing on alternative options including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic. Despite Kane entering the final 12 months of his Spurs contract this summer, one source has told ESPN that United will not risk a prolonged pursuit of Kane that drags out until final hours of the summer transfer window.

“’United can’t afford to start the season without a new striker,” the source said. “And having dealt with Levy in the past, they don’t want to go through that nightmare all over again for Kane with so much at stake, so they might not even get involved.’”

Silva a Spurs target

Fulham boss Marco Silva has emerged as a contender to replace Antonio Conte if the Italian leaves Tottenham, The Sun reports. Spurs are out of the Champions League but still fighting for fourth in the Premier League, though the future of head coach Conte remains unclear with his contract expiring this summer – with the prospect of Conte staying for the remainder of the campaign far from certain. As a result, Spurs are said to be impressed by Silva’s work over at Fulham.

“Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will have admired the way Silva has built a team capable of competing without breaking the bank – a model he still enforces at the club,” the Sun writes.

“However, it remains unknown whether skipper Harry Kane would see Silva’s appointment as proof the club can win trophies in the near future – potentially forcing him to consider his options in the summer transfer window.”

Zaha off to Saudi Arabia?

Al-Ittihad are attempting to lure Wilfried Zaha to Saudi Arabia with a contract offer of £9m per season after tax, the Daily Mail reports. Zaha is said to be considering his future with his Crystal Palace deal expiring this summer, though the Eagles hope to convince him to stay with their most lucrative offer ever.

“Interest in taking Zaha on a free transfer at the end of the season is building – though the winger is purely focused on finishing the campaign as strongly as he can ahead of making a final decision on his future,” the Mail adds.

“It emerged last week that Al-Nassr – who recently signed Cristiano Ronaldo – were also interested in taking Zaha on a Bosman signing this summer.”

The Arsenal clock at Fulham

The Daily Mail have explained the reasoning behind Arsenal’s players and staff posing with a huge clock following their win over Fulham. Arsenal maintained their five-point lead over Manchester City on the weekend, and the Premier League leaders have come up with innovative ways to boost morale on the road.

“The unexpected move is part of an innovative wider plan from within the Gunners squad to make away dressing rooms feel more like the Emirates,” the Mail writes.

“In addition to the replica clock – wall stickers of the Arsenal badge and a poster of the official squad photo was also placed on the walls of the away dressing room at Craven Cottage to give it a more familiar feel.”
